Question

Are there safe supplements warriors can use to enhance their workouts for bodybuilding and performance?

OPSS Answer

It is not always easy to determine whether a dietary supplement product is safe or not, and the OPSS/HPRC Red Flags infosheet is helpful as well as the OPSS/HPRC document Dietary Supplement Education for Warfighters, which is also available in PowerPoint format.

You can find and search a list of all products that have been “certified” for competitive athletes here as well as download an app that links to the list. See the FAQ about third-party certification for more information.

See the FAQ on supplement ratings to learn about specific dietary supplement ingredients and products from the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database and HPRC’s Dietary Supplements Classification System.

HPRC's Nutrition Resources page includes the Warfighter Nutrition Guide, where much helpful and detailed information can be found. The chapter on “Fueling the Human Weapon” describes carbohydrate, protein, and fat needs of the Warfighter. A chapter on dietary supplements contains important and valuable information.
