What are the “red flags” for supplements?
Certain things about a dietary supplement product should raise a “red flag.” Types of supplements that should always be approached with caution include products for bodybuilding, weight loss, performance enhancement, diabetes prevention, and sexual enhancement. Other red flags include: claims to cure a wide range of unrelated diseases; products that promise a “quick fix”; labels warning “may cause a positive result on a drug test”; products touted as all-natural alternatives to certain drugs; and the lack of a third-party-certification seal on the product label.
