Phrases like “'A' for effort” and “don’t be too hard on yourself” are used in hopes of finding the most accurate evaluation of your performance without beating yourself up too much. It’s natural to evaluate your performance after you finish a task. This evaluation should include positive aspects—what you did right—as well as those areas that you can improve on. By looking at your performance, recognizing your strengths, and acknowledging your weak points, you’re in the best position to improve your future performance.
