Why do some people tolerate pain better than others?
Pain tolerance is the maximum amount of pain someone is willing or able to endure. Pain tolerance is affected by many factors. Genetics, expectations, hormones, stress, and other factors all play roles in pain tolerance. Men and women also experience pain differently. One curious factor is that redheaded individuals are more sensitive to certain types of pain, potentially related to a chemical in the body called melanin. Overall, pain is an individual experience, including the tolerance of it.
